WALKING TOURS IN PALMA

Cathedral of Mallorca

“From outside you will see its armour, but get in and you will see its soul!”

The painter Santiago Rusiñol said it once. He said that there was no other temple that with more simplicity of means had reached such beauty.

The Cathedral of Mallorca is one of the most spectacular Gothic cathedrals in the Mediterranean.

Located on the walls of Palma, the our cathedral, also called La Seu de Mallorca, rises imposingly above the Mediterranean Sea and is considered one of the jewels of Gothic Mallorca.

On this guided tour you will discover its history, evolution, curiosities and secrets. In addition, we will contemplate the three major reforms and/or monumental interventions that have taken place in the cathedral: the reconstruction of the Major Portal of the cathedral at the end of the 19th century; the great reform of Antoni Gaudí between 1904 and 1914 by order of Bishop Joan Pere Campins and the intervention of contemporary art by Miquel Barceló (2007) in the old Sant Pere chapel.

We can also visit the cathedral museum where the relic of the patron saint of Palma is found: San Sebastian; the tomb of Bishop Gil Sánchez Muñoz, and the two chapter rooms among others.

And we will look at the details of the portal and then in the interior comment them.

Before entering, we will go to the area of the walls to see and comment on one of the most famous images of Palma and Mallorca: “The Cathedral by the Sea“.

Then we will enter the temple through the Portal de l’Almoina. Once inside and from the central nave, we will explain its history, architecture and evolution; without forgetting the curiosities and anecdotes. To come to an end, we will contemplate the last two interventions that took place in the Seu de Mallorca: that of Antoni Gaudi between 1904 and 1914 and that of Miquel Barceló in 2007.
